Azrael's Tear, an FPP (first-person perspective) adventure game was released in 1996 on PC it was one of the first games I ever played and it feels great to re-visit a game that brings back those memories. Anyway Azreal's Tear is a game that combines the elements of both shooters and RPG's and involves much puzzle solving. You assume the role of a futuristic thief/archaeologist who scavenges antiquities and sells them to the highest bidder to make money for himself. The ultimate prize in Azrael's Tear is the 'Holy Grail', which should fetch a handsome price since it is possibly the only thing that can save a doomed earth from complete annihilation, so selling it seems a bit of a selfish thing to do, but hey! you're a thief!
The graphics in 'Azrael's Tear' are sometimes pixellated, yet quite brilliant, even compared with today’s graphics.

The
graphics in 'Azrael's Tear' are sometimes pixellated, yet quite brilliant, even compared with today’s graphics. Set in an underground world, the game is wrapped in shadow that hides a subtle grandeur, therefore it may take you several completions of the game to fully appreciate the design and craft of the game. The sound work in Azrael's Tear is definitely the best I've ever experienced, with ecclesiastical background music that sets quite an eerie tone for the game, and volume that increases as you draw nearer to the appropriate event, kinda like a heartbeat, adding to the realism. The added attention to detail fully immerses you in the world of The Knight's Templars.
The designers also did a great job of incorporating the puzzle aspects of Azrael's Tear into the storyline. The Achilles heel if you will, of many of the games in the genre is that the puzzles break the flow of the story, time-consuming and difficult beyond measure, adding little to the overall ambiance of the game. In Azrael's Tear, the puzzles are related directly to your actions and generally affect the game world, so they fit into the plot well.
The one let-down of Azrael's Tear is the interface, few of the buttons are labelled and the controls are not intuitive. Positioning yourself in the appropriate spot to perform some actions can be somewhat frustrating in the extreme. 'Azrael's Tear' is intriguing, entertaining, creative, perplexing, and sometimes violent... all elements you would expect in a good game. If you can master the interface (no easy task!), you can easily get lost in the sun-terranean setting of the Knights Templars.
