Game Review (written by Nameon) Added on: 03/15/2007
This game starts out with a solitary character attempting to find his purpose in a tree oriented village. You run into multiple challenges along the way, discovering your purpose and abilities. Most of these abilities allow you to accomplish certain tasks that are necessary to acquire other abilities and/or items. As you accomplish these tasks you interact with multiple All players and each player has its own distinguishable characteristics and demeanor. At times you will be faced with being kidnapped, lost, challenged, and heralded by the characters in the game.

Along the lines of abilities that you acquire, you will find that they are labeled in a very

unique way and are sometimes not very descriptive of the actual use of the ability. Perhaps, the only exception to this is the ability to teleport into another region within the screen. This ability is called "kiniport" and it is to describe this exact action. Keep in mind that this ability can only be used in a region that has a safe place for the character to land and is only found within the screen. There is no map available to allow you to jump from one area to another. One of the most unique capabilities in this game is to glide. This ability gives you the opportunity to explore regions below you that you could not reach by other means. In this game you travel from one area to another by walking, climbing vines or kiniport. As good as gliding is, there is another ability that you can use in conjunction with gliding and this ability (since you are from tree land) is to grow a "floor" in front of a ledge or region that can be glided from. This is perhaps the greatest ability in the game, due to the fact that it requires more skill to do than any other skill. Use this in coordination with kiniport and gliding, and you may find yourself in regions that you would normally not be able to reach otherwise. This gives the game a dynamic that leaves you guessing with multiple possibilities and it offers you to explore more thoroughly your little tree world.
Some may consider this game to be mundane, but it is a truly rewarding experience when you have achieved the top of the world via a tree.

Below the Root is a great game for 1984. If you like WoW I think you will like this classic DOS game from years past. Albeit single player game.

Oh my God! I can't believe this game is here! I used to play it on my old Tandy 1000 EX, I haven't seen it in years! It's still as much fun today as it was back then! The game play is good, you might almost say it's a fore runner to the classic side scrollers like Super Mario Brothers. I can't remeber where half of the items are anymore, but this is one of the best questing games I've ever played!
