Game Review (written by Willitske) Added on: 09/27/2007
I first read the Callahan books by Spider Robinson, which got me interested in the game. There was a nice ad in the back of one of the original book covers for the game that had where you could get it and how much it was.
I think in the beginning I was a little put out that I couldn't be Mike Callahan, but as I went through finding Pytor and solving the puzzles (without a walkthrough from someplace) I started really enjoying the game so much that it didn't matter that I wasn't playing Mike. Finding Pytor, helping Josie, saving the Universe as we know it, you know the stuff that always got done in a Callahan story. Meet the alien, decide if he should live or die, make a toast at the Fireplace, all a matter of course for a Callahan fan.
I truly love this game for more than the fact that it was a book series that I have reread so many times I know them by heart. For those of you who have not read the Callahan series, if you enjoy puzzles, like to take anything not nailed down, and really like to just figure out everything, this is a game for you. The original books were so full of puns that there had to be some in the game. You can imagine standing there, not knowing what to do, turning to your friend for help and all you get is a bunch of really bad plays on words.
But really, it is a puzzle game, and if you think about it just a little, you too shall become one more person who has successfully saved your friends, the chocolate as we wish it was, the planet, and the Universe. But once you’re on your way to playing this game, you will forget about all the problems and just concentrate on getting things done in the game.
