Game Review (written by Boobs_mcgee) Added on: 02/20/2007
While I can’t seem to recall when I first played this game, it has always been one of the original Dos games that personified the gaming experience for me as a young kid. In this game you can choose to be either a male or female elf out to protect his/her people from the evil trolls who hate light and exist only to torture the poor elves. The Grand Elf of the village sends you to the human Gorgimer’s castle as he is a powerful alchemist that might be able to create something to help your people.

Along the way to the save your people you run into all sorts of creatures that are out to get you, luckily you are adept at throwing ‘flash’ berries

to keep them at bay! The game actually features multiple weapons in the form of different berries and (pretty infrequent) fruits to keep your little guy healed. The main style of the game is as an old school arcade platformer, you will have to climb trees and clouds and jump into deep, monster-filled caves. While the controls aren't the best (actually, the jumping in this game is pretty difficult to control and get the hang of), it does have a function for a joystick or a joypad which would actually help you out a lot. You will have many chances to explore and find secrets and friendly (sometimes not so friendly) characters to talk to.
The game itself is not huge, but it is long enough to provide you with a lot places to explore and build your high score. If you listen carefully what friendly creatures have to say to you, you can find a number of power ups and health boosts along the way to help you make it all the way to Gorgimer's castle. Don't forget to be on the lookout for important items, as an interesting addition to this game as an arcade platformer, it also includes some elements of an adventure game!
The graphics are fun and colorful and the sounds are wonderfully nostalgic. My only real words of advice are that you save often because this game is extremely difficult and pretty frustrating if you forget to save!
If you enjoyed platformers and arcade games (or this game) as a kid like I did, you'll be happy to know that this game has two volumes, after you visit Gorgimer's castle you will return to your village to a big surprise.
