Emmanuelle is one of those games that you will either really like or really hate. It is not the usual adult type game where you follow the storyline and get the reward at the end. This is where most people will be turned off or frustrated when giving it a try. However, if one looks past the old graphics and difficult UI, there is an intriguing game that can be challenging, intriguing and subtly erotic at the same time. The approach and erotic atmosphere bring back memories of the movie "Wild Orchid" (1989) where a woman is erotically seduced by a millionaire in Brazil and their sexual escapades accelerate to their fanatic climax.
In the same regard, this game is eroticism of the mind and about what is not shown or said, as much as what is.
The game is an adventure game and I would compare it to the Leisure Suit Larry series. While the main objective is to seduce Emmanuelle with your overwhelming eroticism, you will need to get three statues by acquiring certain items and completing various tasks before you can succeed and clear the game. Diving in, chasing Emmanuelle around Brazil, and 'getting' with the various girls around the country may be fun, but it won't get you anywhere closer to finishing the game as I discovered the first 10 times I played. Also, don't expect amazing graphics and even 'getting' with the various
girls will only show the same action scene which doesn't actually show much. But just like other erotic games, every girl has their own personality and different approaches will need to be discovered by talking to the bartender on how to approach them or by trial and error. Unfortunately as with some adventure games there is very little direction to tell you what you may need to do next and combined with the fact that you can't save your game means that you may have to start from the beginning everytime you fail. This can happen either by running out of energy or running out of money. Luckily, this usually will happen within the first 20-30 minutes of gameplay so you're not stuck playing for 2 hours only to find that you have to start over again.
In summary, I would again like to say that this game won't be for everyone. But for those looking for something slightly different, the best line I can think of is that this game is explicitly erotic instead of explicity sexual.
