What can I say about this fantastic game? A lot of reviews will say that it’s quite a bad game in terms of plot and game play, but don’t listen to them! For me Fable is one of the most memorable games I’ve ever played, and one of the best points and clicks. It’s perhaps not on par with games like Discworld 2 and Broken Sword but it comes pretty close. It is true that the plot is perhaps the weakest part of the game particularly the beginning and ending.

The young protagonist of the game Quickthorpe is selected to go on a quest to slay 4 monstrous rulers and recover 4 gems which will apparently save the world, for a reason which is never revealed
and little (practically none) guidance.
Thin, very thin. And the ending, well, in a word - confusing. It leaves you wondering what the point of the whole game was. But all that happens in between, while totally surreal, is very entertaining. The dialogue especially, is witty and amusing as is the droll narration. Throughout the game you meet a wide range of characters- from bewildering imps to intimidating gorgons – so the game is never dull. In fact the strange little imp (met in the forest) is my favorite character – he’s just so cute.
As the game play, for me personally it couldn’t have been better. The puzzles are tricky sometimes yes, but mainly they make a twisted kind of sense, so the use of a walkthrough isn’t required too often. The only real problem I had with the game play is when Quickthorpe (What a name. Poor boy) dies. There is no game over screen, no option to load; you are just left staring at the scenery. And pretty though the scenery is, it’s kind of annoying. There are some really original and funny events in this game, one of my favorites being when you confront the underwater ruler. You can either kill her straight away, or, saying the right things to her will lead to an intriguing conversation (you still have to kill her though).
The graphics in Fable are also quite strong. They are wonderfully detailed and completely capture the essence of the game. Just looking at the backgrounds, gives a feeling of magic and enchantment. The characters are really well designed as well and their appearances reflect their personalities wonderfully.
All in all, I think that Fable is a great game, flawed but great and anyone who loves point and click should at least give it a try.
