Without a doubt, this is the best point 'n click game I've played. Funny, with nudity and violence as needed, it stands out as probably the only realistic spy-based point 'n click adventure game ever made. The difficulty factor isn't anything to scoff at, since the game is based roughly in real time, and there are a few situations where you are stuck permanently. But, as far as creativity and atmosphere goes, this game can't be beat.
Your character is a KGB agent, right before the fall of the Soviet Union.
For dialogue, you can pick your response and make your character your own...of course, some of the difficulty factor comes out here, as you might miss out on information if you make the 'wrong' response/ Missing clues is a big issue, since you basically have to sweep every single room you go into. Plus, recalling clues at the right time is just as challenging, and it’s probably best to write out the information in a notebook.
The plot is standard for spy stuff: Starts with a narrow focus, and it expands from there. Snuff films, double agents, and even the clichéd 'Who killed my parents?' aspects come into play in the game. You don't get excessive gadgets, either; just money, cigarettes, and
a tape recorder is all you need in Russia.
And yes, there is nudity and violence. Not excessive, of course. Oh, drug use and some other shady businesses also come into play. A good portion of the things in the game are stereotypes, but they are self-aware stereotypes, so it’s not like one of those movies about commies from the 50s.
It’s definitely a must play if you are a spy thriller fan like me. Its exceedingly original, neither borrowing from Bond or from spy spoofs, and yet manages to be serious and funny when appropriate.
To be honest, I never finished it, but the last time I got far in it I was probably in Middle School still, and it was too difficult for me at the time. Be sure to check out the walkthroughs at gamefaqs.com if you get stuck, they are pretty good. If you are looking for a good point 'n click game, go for this one or the Colonel's Bequest. That one has more reading, no nudity, and less violence.
