Game Review (written by Maneaterrrr) Added on: 09/11/2006
So King Quest 1 is a really basic game, one of the first I have ever played, actually. I played it when I was 2, and I think that that was a few years after it was made, so count on it being older than 20 years. It was called "The Floating Castle" if I remember correctly and the title was what interested me. Castles, kings, I was into that sort of stuff. So I started playing, and naturally I was terrible. So I picked the game up a few years later, and it was awesome! The story is great, especially for those of you who can finish the game (not hard, although mastering it to get all of the points is a difficulty) and it is very true to the time. Mastering the controls, however, is not the easiest task. You have to be a pro at using the keys to walk and controlling speed is difficult to say the least, but the storyline more than makes up for it. Finding all of the little objects to get all of the points is also tough, and many times you don't notice the pebbles you needed to beat the giant, or the water pot you need for god knows why.
This game was developed by Sierra, also known for their many excellent games including: Ecoquest Lost Secret of the Rainforest, EcoQuest Search for Cetus, Pepper's Adventures in Time, all of the King's Quests, Space Quest, Police Quest, etc. In a few words, Sierra was the master of the early VGA games!! I loved to play all of the games, and prided myself on beating them when I could.
This game has it all: great storyline, decent graphics (remember its VGA people!) and good control. The only drawback is that it is text-driven, making the game harder to control, yet easier to interact with. The text driven adventure is an excellent game and can be played by anyone, even if they only have half an hour here and 20 minutes there.
