This game is ALMOST exactly the same as the original King's Quest 1 game by Sierra. There are only a few differences to the storyline that I personally think makes the story better and wouldn’t even be noticed if you haven't played the original recently. Also, the big bonus here is the remastered graphics, which really make the game a lot more entertaining, as you can actually see king graham move across the screen as opposed to a 16 bit rectangle of many colors.
The storyline for this game is the basic fantasy fairy tale plot. Heroic knight goes off and faces many improbable dangers to recover an item of importance making him a world renowned hero that everyone ends up loving. While unfortunately the plot line is not as interesting as the later games in this series, it does provide an adequate introduction to King Graham and the Kingdom of Daventry.
King Grahm is a knight of the old king. He must go and recover the three artifacts, that the king desires for the safety of the kingdom after he has died. King Graham goes on a quest to recover these three artifacts. On his way he encounters many dangers including an evil witch, a firebreathing dragon, and
a boulder on an inclined hill.
Aside from the simple plot. The game is full of clever puzzles that have always made King's Quest stand out. It requires timing, patience, and the probable death of Graham a few times before you are able to make your way through the game. People probably get to easily frustrated and quickly revert to the online strategy guide. This is unfortunate because the game is thrice as fun if you find the answers for yourself.
The audio in this game is fairly decent if you download the speech and music packs. The voiceovers are decent when you consider how very ancient this game is. My only issue with this was that the speech is done too slowly and I was frustrated that I had to keep trying to hasten up the speed.
All in all this is one of the better free games that you can download online.
