Game Review (written by Retrogamer420) Added on: 07/10/2008
Leather Goddesses of Phobos was certainly one of the greats of its time. Not only was it a great action/adventure type game, it had serious elements of comedy as well.
Like most of the old text based games, there are a variety of words one should keep in mind when playing the game that will come in very handy. For instance, using ‘inventory’ will pull up a list of everything your character is currently carrying. This is great if you need a specific item or you forgot you’re carrying something in particular. Also, you may not have enough place to carry an important item and thus checking your inventory will let you see exactly what you’re carrying that you don’t need. Also, use the ‘look’ function to inspect the area or room you’re in or investigate a certain item or thing. It’s easy to get lost in the many areas the game offers so using the ‘look’ option is a great way to familiarize yourself with where you are. Typing ‘Again’ will repeat the same command you typed which is great if you’re travelling in the same direction or repeating the same command (like waiting.) In fact, that’s a good one too; ‘wait.’ Sometimes these games require the passing of time in order for progress to resume. By typing ‘wait’ you’re basically saying I want my character to twiddle his thumbs or chew gum and rub your tummy at the same time. ‘Oops’ is a good command to know as it may save you some frustration. If you type a command the system doesn’t know like ‘flip the switch.’ And it comes back with ‘I don’t know the work ‘flip.’ You can simply type ‘Oops ‘___’ with the correction like ‘Oops ‘push’’ and it will reassign that word in your previous sentence. Great to know.
Some of these types of games keep track of your health. It may be of importance to know where your character stands and how long they have to live. By typing ‘diagnose’ or even possibly ‘health’ you will get an update on health status. Again, good to know.
Leather Goddesses is a rather sexually suggestive game. It may not be suitable for the youngsters but I can’t imagine anyone born after 1980 playing this game anyway.
