Lost Dutchman's Mine is a game set back in the old West, in a fictional mining town in Arizona. You are a miner, searching for the ever elusive "Lost Dutchman's Mine", as the game in appropriately named. Throughout the course of the game you will have the opportunities to pan and mine your own gold, take on Indians, bandits, and snakes, and fish. You will first need to purchase the proper fishing equipment to be able to fish, but once you do, you will have a replenishable food supply.

You have to make your money through panning for gold, which is your basic money, until you have enough to buy the supplies you will need to move onto the mines. To be able to go out into the mines you will first need to make sure you have; a pick axe, a lantern, a fairly large supply of food, and a horse. Also, water contains. Not just for mining, but every time you venture out.
Long johns are also another very wise thing to have, since you are affected by the elements and temperature. But, be careful about how much you can carry until you get your first horse! You can have up to three horses in the game. They help

you to carry more things, and are fully worth the price you have to pay for them. But, watch out, though! As it was mentioned earlier, you will have to take on bandits, whom if you lose to, will take your horses, and everything they were carrying. That makes a gun and bullets a very good thing to have. It will also help when taking on any other threats you may have to face. However, if you are unlucky enough to get wounded, there are certain supplies that can help to cure you, but you are best off going into town to visit the doctor. There are also places for you to stay in the town, since it's not wise to venture out after dark. There are also places to gamble, and increase or lose your money, depending on your luck and skill.
Overall, this is a game that has something to always do, avoiding the boring aspects of some other games. The graphics were done fairly well, considering the time. The amount of time it will take you to finish the game depends on how lucky you are in finding the legendary lost mine, something which I've only managed to do once. But, once you find the mine, don't think you're home free! You will find that surviving the mine is a whole other story. Enjoy!
