Return To Zork
A Revolutionary Masterpiece!
Review by Amy Alexander
Where do I begin, this sequel to the Zork anthology by Activision was a masterpiece of its time. Made in 1993 this game was a legend in the making. I still consider it a rival to many PC games made today.
Return to Zork takes place in a Dark town once forgotten, know once as The Valley of The Sparrows, but you the unlikely contest sweepstakes winner, will embark on an adventure you will never forget. If you enjoy mysterious worlds and, engaging puzzles this game is a must. The characters are witty and sweet, the scenery is marvelous and the plot is compelling. Starring live actors, building relationships with a school teacher, a wizard and so many
others! I remember this game from my childhood and still enjoy it.
It’s the kind of game you must play again and again to see the characters you have grown to love. Imagine a place where Vultures wait in the darkness predicting your every move, waiting for you to throw them some meat, a place where fairies protect stone statues in the deep forest, a witch with romance issues, and a cow that does not need that brazier. Get ready to laugh, scream and cry for this one! Out smarting a mindless drunk is your first puzzle, I wouldn't suggest drinking his "Rye" but once you figure this one out, you are on your way to the Great Underground Empire. The days of the week are renamed for the game, as are the months, you find yourself speaking of "Mog Day" and escaping "hell hounds" Trusty Wizard Trembyle is good help until his "Tele-Orb" battery dies, thanks to the IT&L corp. They give you a tape recorder, a "Pholobloid" instant camera as gifts for winning the "sweepstakes" but beware this is no vacation.
I played this game for many days at a time it is helpful to have the book handy or a reference of some sort, you will need to know the days of the week. Most of the puzzles make you use your brain a lot so try to play them with a friend or relative. Some are just common sense. It is an old DOS game so make sure your computer is compatible to DOS games made in the 90's. I would recommend this game to anyone who wants to play a unique game that involves mystery and puzzles.
