I first remember playing this game in around 1994 I think, as a major Star Trek fan, and an avid Gamer, the chance to play my Hero's in away missions was an awesome concept (Well I WAS 12), the graphics seemed better in those days, but then, we have been used to better graphics since. It was also one of the first games I remember having proper speech in the game with the actors themselves actually doing the voice-overs (the very first game I think was 'Dune').

The Game is split into two parts, the space combat, and the away missions, with each episode being a mission. I found the combat hard, a bit of a learning curve, and now that I have
played it again I found it a challenge to relearn (or rather unlearn what I’ve become used to) how to win the combat. Think star trek meets Wing commander and you should understand how it works.
As far as the away missions go you have four people you play, usually Kirk, Spock, Mcoy, and a red shirt (Security), although the red shirt often has something useful to contribute, he is usually the buffer between losing one of your main three guys (try shooting at the wrong rock formation in the first mission to see what I mean :-P). There are times though, when you will get the opportunity to play other characters as well.
The puzzles are challenging, interesting and make sense, and the plot for each episode/ mission are excellent. Some of the missions will bring you into contact with old friends, enemies. Irritations, and as such game is an excellent crossover from TV and movies to Computer.
I forget exactly how many missions there were but I remember spending ages on this game despite it being a linear 'romp through the stars' but I remember there were at least 7 or 8 missions if not more, although I could be wrong, it’s been a long time since I’ve played them proper :-).
If you liked this game then I would recommend its sequel 'Star Trek: Judgment rites', and even the Star Trek: The Next Generation game 'Star Trek TNG: A Final Unity', if you are into sci-fi comedy I would recommend the Space Quest Series as well (They are Very Funny).
I hope after reading this article you will download this golden relic from the past, it is a classic that, along with its sequel, should never be lost.
