Starflight was the first game that really took control of my life and turned me into a video game junky! The game is focused around exploring the universe, via a starmap, and finding a suitable world for the people of Arth to colonize before the crystal planet burns up their sun.
What adventures you find in between is the great part of this amazing game. It is still one of a kind game that set the bar high for both games of its era and for future games to come.

What adventures you find in between is the great part of this amazing game. It is still one of a kind game that set the bar high for both games of its era and for future games to come. The gigantic size of the universe makes it hard to believe it came on only a couple floppy disks. There is literally too much to ever explore completely. I spent days and months playing and never got tired
or bored with the same old repetitive missions and scenarios that most other games entail.
There are so many different aspects of the game that are even hard to find in a single game these days; Interaction with other races and characters, exploration and colonization of NUMEROUS different worlds, finding treasure, unique objects and artefacts, discovering different species, building up your characters and ship, and engaging in space battle. How could all that steer you wrong!
The graphics are pretty typical for a game from the eighties, but I do remember thinking how advanced they were at the time. After playing it again for the first time in 20 years and being used to the phenomenal quality of today’s standards, I had no problem getting right back into the feel and look of the game, and the graphics didn’t matter whatsoever. It had been so long since I had even thought of Starflight, that I was absolutely beside myself when realized I could play this game again from download DOS games!!! I also found that it is quite easy to get online and find sites that have all of the original manuals and maps, have tips on how to play or how to get out of trouble if you happen to get stuck in a situation you can’t seem to get out of. It is not surprising that there are still numerous fans of this game writing about it, and devoting websites to it.
I totally look forward to the many hours ahead of exploring new worlds, seeking out new life, building up my ship and crew, and battling it out to find a place for the people of Arth to live. God Speed!
