Game Review (written by Alisg) Added on: 04/26/2007
This fun filled, hardly moveable game was the creation of Greg Duddle. In the mid-80s Duddle developed this game based on the Robert Louis Stevenson book Treasure Island, the book was written in 1883. In the book Treasure Island Jim Hawkins is a young boy who goes on a quest to find a buried treasure. In the more than 120 years since its publishing Treasure Island has spawned many games, books, movies, and action heros few have the impact of this video game.
As Jim Hawkins the player moves through multi-pirate filled levels until finally reaching the crème de la crème, the showdown with Long John Silver. In the book, Silver and a band of his fellow pirates take over the ship. In Treasure Island (the computer game) Hawkins escapes from the pirates and tries to evade capture.
None of the pirates moved during battles but they could throw swords, cutlasses if you prefer, and kill Hawkins. If a pirate touched Hawkins he would die, that kind of sucked but then again this was a game of the 80s. Anyway, if you avoid the pirate throws you can throw the sword back and kill the offending pirate. When the pirate dies you can pass him, thus furthering the game.
It is a fun game, if not a little slow. I would not recommend it for those who are digital enthusiasts but if it is the simplicity of the mid-80s you are looking for, this is the game for you. I grew up a few years after the flip-screen age so I would not consider this if you were say, buying the game, but if you are thinking of something fun to do and an easy game to beat, go ahead and play!
