This is a silly game. That is all there is to it. It was released in 1997 by Hoffman and Associates and is a standard inventory-hunting point and click adventure that is really anything but standard.
The game play in UFOs is a run of the mill point and click adventure based on running around and picking up items to use in puzzle sequences. Everything else about the game is unusual, at best. The main character is a purple alien with only one eye that looks like a sausage.

The game play in UFOs is a run of the mill point and click adventure based on running around and picking up items to use in puzzle sequences. Everything else about the game is unusual, at best. The main character is a purple alien with only one eye that looks like a sausage. His ship crash lands someplace in the Ozark Mountains, a pigpen to be exact, and Gnap has to find items with which to repair his ship and continue his journey.
The setting of Gnap poses to be a
problem. The game stereotypes the layout and inhabitants of this rural setting for the sake of comedy. There just isn’t a lot of technology in the Ozarks for Gnap to work with. To make matters worse or better, depending on how you look at it Gnap is befriended by a neurotic platypus that instantly attaches to his side.
From the start, UFOs is a humorous adventure filled with peril. The inhabitants of the Ozarks are hillbilly style thugs. The barnyard animals that are running loose everywhere are anything but friendly, and the platypus is a bit of a hindrance. The violence is comic and the conversations are funny as well.
Outside of the humor, the game is pretty straightforward. The interface is easy to comprehend, featuring a remote control device on the top of the screen that supplies the inventory. The puzzles are not terribly complex, and logic can succeed in most settings. There are several games within the game, including the chance to play Space Invaders, which break up the inventory hunt nicely. This is a fun little game, but some will find it offensive. UFOs/Gnap will offer no gray area. Download it now, and have fun!
