Game Review (written by Lindsay2) Added on: 11/28/2007
Veil of Darkness by Strategic Simulations, Inc. is an adventure game that came out in 1994. In this game you start out as a young pilot whose plane has been sabotaged by an evil vampire. You have crashed in a small village which is in a valley that has been cut off from the rest of the world. Your main goal in the game is to rescue this village by finding and killing the evil vampire. You have a piece of paper in your hand that pretty much tells you what you have to do in order to accomplish this goal.

The prophecy is about a person who will ultimately come to the village

and save it from the curse that was set upon it by the vampire. You come to realize that the person the prophecy is talking about is you.
Not only are you being hunted down by this evil vampire, you are also hunted down by other creatures such as werewolves and zombies. This little village in the valley is located in the Transylvanian Mountains and it seems like for the past hundred years or so, time has completely forgotten that this place exists. It is cloaked in a mysterious mist that makes it seem even scarier. The town revolves around myths, legends, and superstition. You can tell by the conversations that go on during the game.
Your first task is to find some kind of hammer and give it to a guy named Kiril, who also has a daughter that he will set you up with at the end of the game. As you talk to different townspeople, you will notice that on your map new places will be revealed. These will include the place where your plane crashed, the vampire’s castle, a monastery, a forest, a maze, a gypsy camp, and even a graveyard. In this game, you have different weapons that you find and/or buy for each creature. For example, you will have holy water for killing vampires or a blessed silver sword to kill the zombies. You will see many things along the way and no matter how weird or useless an object may be, you still want to pick it up because it may prove useful in some way later on in the game. Watch out for things other than the creatures like moving walls and dead bodies.
Overall, this is a pretty good game. The intro music is not good, but the music in the rest of the game is cool. The graphics are pretty good as well.
