Game Review (written by Cherrypie) Added on: 01/03/2007
Actraiser is a cool role-play game. You start the game by defeating a boss once the boss is defeated you can then start securing your town. Through the boss stages you play as a warrior with a sword. Once you have defeated the boss you then play as a god. The character looks more like an angel and you fly above the town with a bow and arrow. Shooting the monsters that attack your town. If the monsters fly or walk into you, they can stop you from firing your arrows.
You need to ensure that they don’t wipe out all your hit points. You do not lose a life in god mode, just the ability to shoot.
But you can lose lives in warrior mode. You direct the people in which direction to build. Along the way you learn different things, so at times you have to go back to a previous level to complete it. The people talk to you and ask you to help them with different tasks. In each town there are four monster lairs. You need to direct the people toward each monster lair to seal it. Whilst sealing them, the people find a variety of things and give them to you as offerings. These can be angel bombs, special arrows or sources of magic.
You only use the sources of magic in the warrior mode. At the end of each level you have to face a second boss. Once the second one is defeated you move onto the next level. There are a list of things you can do as a god. You can create lightning, rain, sunshine and wind. You direct most of these to just one square on the screen at a time. Apart from the wind which just blows through the whole town. Lightning can be used for destroying rocks and some trees that would be in the way, and would disrupt the building process.
Rain can be used to revive scorched lands or to remove desert land. Sunshine can be used to dry up the wet marsh land and make it habitable. The wind is used to blow away monsters or to set the sails going on windmills. As you get further into the game you can create an earthquake. This destroys most of the homes you've already built and knocks down your population numbers. But in certain circumstances, unless you create an earthquake you cannot finish the level. At the end you face a final boss.
This is every boss you've already faced, one after the other. It is quite an easy game, but the game play is fun and I would recommend it to people of all ages.

ActRaiser is one of my favorite games. I've played it since I was young, and I really want to play it again.
