The Amazing Spider-Man video game was developed by Paragon Software Corporation as one of their various Marvel Superhero games. They published the game in 1989. In this classic arcade game, Spidey fans will enjoy sending him on quests to fight evil. We all know that Spidey can handle his own where there is action going on, but can he handle puzzle solving, too? Maybe Peter Parker will have to help him out.
Spider-Man does his usual crawling up the walls and on the ceiling and of course swinging from building to building.

We all know that Spidey can handle his own where there is action going on, but can he handle puzzle solving, too? Maybe Peter Parker will have to help him out.
Spider-Man does his usual crawling up the walls and on the ceiling and of course swinging from building to building. He also has the ability to shoot spider bombs and use a grappling hook.
The plot in the game is that Mary Jane has been kidnapped by one of Spider-Man’s enemies…Mysterio. He has taken her
to Rockwell Studios — an abandoned movie lot. It’s there that Spidey is instructed to meet Mysterio if he ever wants to see Mary Jane again. Spidey has to go through many levels of mazes to eventually defeat Mysterio and get back his true love. The studios are divided into sets, such as graveyards and the Wild West. You confront many of Mysterio’s helpers as you go along in the game. Even though you have to kill monsters, mummies, and the like, in order to make progress in the game you have to solve puzzles. You have to go through many challenges (like a dinosaur) and hazards (such as slippery floors) to finish the puzzles. As the game goes on, the puzzles get more elaborate and more bad guys show up, whose only objective is to kill Spider-Man.
You also have switches to deal with. They are in various places in the levels and are usually the keys to progressing in the game. Yet, there is a twist here: sometimes the switches aren’t so helpful. They can release monsters that suddenly attack, often causing Spidey’s death. To know the health of Spider-Man, there is a graphic of him that keeps turning into a skeleton as he gets weaker and weaker. When there is no Spidey-skin left, game over. You can save your progress in case your spidey-senses need a break.
Of course the graphics aren’t as spectacular as in the games of the past few years, but much care has been put into making the characters unique. The environments that Spidey has to go through are also unique. Many of the rooms parody film genres; and as some might now, Mysterio has an obsession with film.
True Spider-Man fans, especially those who love the older video games, will find this one to be fun and interesting. Hand drawn graphics adds a comic book feel, which more recent games do not have. It’s definitely an old-school video game.
