Think Space Invaders ... with mutant camels. I know!! It's fantastic in a way that only mutant camels attacking you can be (oh, and by the way, you happen to be a small white mousy creature that shoots balls of fire from your mouth...exactly what you would expect, right?!).
Okay, yet again, I downloaded this game simply because of the name. Who wouldn't, right? It took a few minutes to start up, because even though the install process takes all of five seconds, there isn't actually an accompanying Read Me file.
This is what the game directs you to, to find out the controls, the rules, everything. Joy of joys. Anyhow, here it is for you, to make your quasi-psychedelic foray into the mystic land of mutant camels easier: the directional keys are QAOP, Q is up, A is down, O is left, P is right. To go from the main screen to the game itself, hit P, but sometimes Enter will work as well. Write it down...there is no file to help you with the game. The most important key to keep a finger on, though, is the space bar. This is how you shoot balls of flame towards to dastardly approaching menace of the mutant camels. And, oh, do they just
keep getting better! It's a very cartoony game, reminiscent of Kings Quest 7, or, well, I suppose just about any kids' show they played on Saturday mornings in the 1990s!
Again, the gameplay itself is unbelievably basic. You have a huge 2D strip of land to protect to keep the mutant camels from getting to your safe haven at the end of the road, so get along to the camels' end fast, and start to blast those bad boys away! It's linear, like the Mario games streaming backwards, but besides that, you're just looking at a hilarious alternative to whipping out the ol' Atari and control stick for some Space Invaders.
All that being said, though it seems like it could be rather violent, it's presented in such a silly, cartoony way that it would be great for the young 'uns looking to improve their hand/eye coordination before moving onto something much more difficult.
It's easy to start out with, all but self explanatory, and the levels get more difficult as you go along. Even those who are Space Invaders aficionados should not have a problem keeping themselves amused and occupied with this game!
You will have to install the game, but that being said, it's not like normal DOS games that go full-screen when you play. It's just under a quarter of the size of my screen. There may be a way to make it larger, or even go for the massive mutant camel full screen experience, but again, no Read Me file is included. Small mutant camels are better than none at all, and this game is definitely worth the download!
