The story of Batman Forever centers around two villains, Two Face and the Riddler, joining forces to take over Gotham City. Two Face blames Batman for the accident that left one side of his face permanently scarred and seeks revenge on the hero. The Riddler is a psychotic prankster. Users may play as either Batman or Robin (or both in two-player cooperative mode) and must stop the baddies before Gotham City is ruined.
As
mentioned, there are many moves and combinations of moves that can be mastered to assault the enemies. More difficult still, however, is the massive inventory of gadgets that are at Batman and Robin’s disposal. It just wouldn’t be Batman without gadgets such as the batarang, bat bola, or various other optional weapons the duo can use. These gadgets are somewhat difficult to master since there are so many of them and they each have a unique sequence required to activate them. Robin’s Heat Gun and Batman’s Electric Pellet are two of the more difficult gadgets to play. Many of these items can picked up as the heroes battle their way through the levels. Other bonus items include riddle boxes, which offer game tips, and coins that offer extra lives or energy.
There are eight total levels in Batman Forever. Gamers can also opt to play in training mode, which is excellent practice for mastering the combination moves and gadgetry used in the game itself. Not that it does much good, but the user can also play as some of the enemies. It is kind of a fun aside, but offers little help in the actual game play.
The graphics of Batman Forever, as well as the sound, are both quite good. The characters are more human in appearance than cartoonish. However, do no be expecting any cool CGI cut scenes from the movie, such as the one that appears on the box cover featured in the screen shots. There aren’t any in the game.
