Battledrome is an old school robot shooter I used to play and it is definitely a fun game. The graphics are okay and the controls may be difficult sometimes, but otherwise it's very easy and the best part is the ability to decide which weapons are your favorite to use. There is a huge selection of weapons in the game and also a huge selection of robots to use. A fun thing in the game that I recall are the sentry guns that automatically hit robots who patrol past them in the arena.
The battles are one versus one and with the victor come the spoils of extra cash to either upgrade your robot or your weaponry. The arenas are actually not that small in size and while this game is an oldie it is definitely still a goodie. Me and my brother used to play this game for hours because of the limitless possibilites you can upgrade your robot to and the sheer fun of blowing another robot to smitherines. It is probably one of the earliest games that linked robot fighting action with the ability to customize things to such a drastic point. I believe that engines and armor and the like could also be upgraded. With so many things to upgrade and customize, Battledrome quickly
became one of the fighting games with the most replay value, especially during its time, but it still is good today.
This game can be somewhat compared to Earthsiege 2, in my opinion, but I definitely think this game is 100x better and is more to the point. There is the feature to play this game online also but at the time the technology was very new so unfortunetly unless the game was being played via lan I was never able to personally get anything special going if anything at all to play another person. It ran very well on a 486 processor which I used to have. The game was released in April of 1995 and definitely was ahead of its time at the point when it was released. Despite the arena graphics being somewhat nominal, the overall robot graphics were out of this world but more importantly the gameplay was superb and enjoyable for not just multiplayer (which it was designed for) but also for singleplayer. I give this game 4 of 5 stars. It is a load of fun, and should not be missed out upon.
