Billy the Kid

PC
Genre:  Arcade    |     Year: 1993    |     Publisher: unknown     |     Developer: unknown
Game Review (written by Shannon) Added on: 04/27/2008
Alive Soft and Ocean combined to create Billy the Kid, a fun little scrolling action game that is based upon the legendary exploits in the wild west of William H. Bonny. The game is more like several miniature games strung together, but most all of them feature some shooting fun and have a great western cowboy appeal.
Billy the Kid is divided into ten episodes, each with its own themes in four levels. Each of the adventures are based on a stereotypical legendary issue that Billy the Kid was said to have had while he was on the run from the law in the old west.

who pursue him from the old jail house. He must then survive in the desert and defeat gunmen and poisonous snakes that threaten him. He will find an old mine shaft while he is on the run from the law and will enter it to try to find the prospector’s riches…Billy is an outlaw, after all, and what honest criminal could resist that. Billy must also battle with other thugs, such as Sombrero Jack and his gang, and he will fight and flirt with the senoritas in town. He will have to get through the ghost town, find the lost treasure of Captain Lightfoot, fight fearsome Apache braves, and survive a shootout with the United States cavalry when things start getting really hairy. Finally, he will have to have a duel with Sheriff Pat Garrett (who allegedly brought Bonny down in the actual wild west tales). The user can also play the game as Pat Garrett, but most will take Billy the Kid and be the runner instead of the runnee, which is much more fun.
The point of the game is to simply stay alive and try to make it through as many levels as possible without losing all of the allotted lives. The user can also rack up some very serious points. It is possible to play the game in a “non-violent” mode, which makes it more appropriate for children. Of course, this is not as much fun, either, but if parents are worried about the implications of wildly using a gun, they can offer kids this option. There are several different views for the game, depending on what episode the user is in. Most of the game is from a top down perspective, but there are some first person, cross-hair style gun fights.
Billy the Kid does not have great modern graphics, but it does offer a huge map and it is a large game that will keep the gamer busy for quite some time. It should be a satisfying download, especially for the fan of western adventures.
