Cannon Fodder 2 was a strategically based war game that was very successful right from the beginning. It went right to number one on release and stayed in the charts for a long time with a large amount of sales. The main aspect of the game was to guide soldiers through 24 missions with levels populated by a large amount of trees, huts and lakes.
There has been one major change to Cannon Fodder 2 compared to the original. The plot now involves time travel, rather than the straightforward war situations.
This means that the levels are taking place in different scenarios including an ‘Alien Planet’. It can be very vital to locate strategic defence positions to further along in the game with less difficulty.
Each level can include a variety of vehicles ranging from jeeps to helicopters. They can be used to shoot or run down enemy soldiers. Collectible grenades have joined the standard bullets, it’s best to use them wisely as nothing else is capable of destroying huts or other enemy vehicles.
The graphics in this game are 3D isometric with a top down view. They have been well designed especially with the photography that has been included in certain areas of the game such as the renowned disk-swapping message that differs
for each disk that you have to change to.
With Cannon Fodder 2 you are in control of a group of soldiers that are sent out to kill the enemy. As the lead character you do most of the fighting, but the computer will back you up with a few extra men. They will not be as good as your own character, but they will at least provide a bit of protection if you’re going to get attacked from behind.
The controls of this game are very simple. By right clicking, you will make your men move while left clicking will tell them to fire. Accuracy can be a bit of an issue, but by shooting a couple of times you may hit the enemy. The joy of this is that you do have infinite ammo so you can shoot as many times as you please.
The greatest part of this game is that the missions are not too tedious and confusing. There are no problems with the 3D camera or any other problems that occur in many games today. Cannon Fodder 2 is a very entertaining but simple game that you can sit and play for hours on end. The best part is that the game doesn’t decide what is going to happen next. You lead your team to victory or death.
