Castle Wolfenstein is a slow paced stealth game based in the era of World War II. The game is played in a top down view, but the characters are seen upright on your screen. To get through each level you have to sneak by guards, impersonate Nazi soldiers and kill your opponent if needed. You are able to use your keyboard, joystick or paddles to control the game. To defeat the game you must locate the plans and escape the castle without getting caught.
When you first start off playing you will be equipped with a gun and bullets, which you take from a dead cellmate. You right away will attract the attention of the guards who will attempt to shoot and capture you. You have to either run from the guards or kill them. There are two different types of guards to look out for. There is the standard guard and the SS Storm troopers who wear bulletproof vests marked with the SS insignia. The regular guards can be quite unintelligent. They will only notice you if you wander past them or they hear gunshots or a grenade explode. The SS guards are much more intelligent. Once they are alerted they tend to chase you. To
kill them you will require a large number of bullets or a grenade.
There are only two ways of killing the enemies. You can shoot them but you only have a certain amount of bullets to use and a risk of alerting the guards or you can use a grenade, which will still get the guards attention. The guards die by screaming Aieegh! Which is a form of digital sample. When you kill an enemy you are about to search for bullets, keys, grenades and bullet proof vests. Each item will assist you in its own way to further you along in the game.
One of the best things to get in the game is the uniform of one of the guards. The normal guards will not be able to tell that you are not actually one of them but the SS guards are smarter than that and will discover you as an impostor and capture you. Getting a hold of a uniform is one of the best strategies in the game.
Castle Wolfenstein is a great game with an odd plot. You are attempting to break out of the castle without getting discovered by the guards. The game can have its difficult points, but never too difficult. This game is playable by all ages. The set up and controls of this game are quite easy to learn making it easier for the new gamers to begin play and get the hang of things very simply by trying. I would recommend this game for any one who enjoys strategic games that require a bit of time to get through.
