Game Review (written by Eric) Added on: 01/14/2008
Centipede is a shooters game released in 1980 by Atari. The game is pretty simple, you just have to move your character back and forth in the screen and shoot on mushrooms, centipedes and other creatures in the garden. Although the game was ported for several systems, the game play and the features of the game were the same for all the different versions.
This game is a true classic that gamers usually encounter at one point or another. I bet this game will last for many more years and will continue to be played by gamers of all ages from young kids to older adults. There are enough levels to provide gamers with an exciting playing time. In each level the goal is to destroy the monster for that level. The first creature that you must destroy is the centipede. You must target the centipede’s head or the tail (end) so that it will lose a life. If you hit the centipede on the body between the head and the tail, it will just break off into two pieces and create another centipede.
Another creature that you must defeat is the flea. The flea moves and is able to consume big amounts of mushrooms. Another creature you must vanquish is the spider. The spiders are the easiest creatures to kill in the game. The last creature is the scorpion. The scorpion is difficult to defeat and can cause frustration for the player as the mushrooms that come into contact with the scorpion become deadly mushrooms.
The enemy centipede will make its way down to the bottom of the screen where you are located shooting off at it. You must make sure you defeat the enemy creature before it reaches you at the bottom of the screen. You must also hit the mushrooms because the rival creatures are able to move more rapidly when it reaches the mushrooms on the screen. You can eliminate mushrooms on the screen by hitting on it four times.
The game is fun and fast-paced so even though it does not feature the most amazing graphics and sounds, the game play more than makes up for the deficiencies.
This is a game that I highly recommend for those looking for a refreshing game that requires fast reflexes. It is a fun game that anyone can enjoy so don’t think twice about downloading the game, I guarantee you will enjoy it.
