Changoo 4, also known as Crayon Shin-Chan 4, is the fourth in a popular and long-running series of fan made games that are based on Crayon Shin-Chan 4, a humorous manga with Asian roots. It was wildly popular in its home area, but was seldom released in other areas. Still, it was popular enough to inspire this fan made series of games, which feature very similar anime/manga graphics, vivid color, and beautiful detail. The game plays out as a two-dimensional scrolling platform game.
The premise of Crayon Shin-Chan 4 centers around an adorable, precocious, and often times just plain troublesome little five-year-old boy, Shin-Chan.
He has quite an interesting life, and lives with his alcoholic and womanizing father, a doting but extremely thrifty mother, and a spoiled brat of a younger sister who seems to get all the attention from her parents. Shin-Chan is also lacking severely in the brains department himself. So, on top of all of his other issues, he tends to gravitate towards any trouble that is brewing and if there is no trouble brewing…he will brew it himself.
When the game begins, Shin-Chan is walking down the sidewalk on an average street in his neighborhood. He will begin by being attacked by older school mates, most of whom are girls…which pleases Shin-Chan immensely. Beating up on girls must remind him of
his sister! Shin-Chan will both attack them, and will avoid the ones that are too powerful for him to defeat. In this area, he will also have to do battle with some very unfriendly animals, as well. As he progresses through his neighborhood from level to level, things will become increasingly weird. By the time the user is deeply into the game, the upperclassmen will have been replaced by spaceships, aliens, and other interesting and colorful manga monsters.
Changoo 4 also offers several interesting mini games within the main platform. The most interesting part about them is that, once you unlock them, you can play them separately and at will, making them a great break from the regular game. These mini games are varied, and several bear striking resemblances to other, already popular, arcade style games.
Overall, this interesting and well-done game that is made better by its stellar anime graphics and engaging pretense. It has some very odd twists and turns, and also some nice breaks in the form of the numerous mini games. This has a little something for everyone and should provide for a solid and colorful play.
