Game Review 1 (written by Pdr2001) Added on: 10/13/2006
I enjoyed this game massively when I was about ten years old on my old Tandy computer. Commander Keen was a great series but I only had a few of them and #4 and I spent hours on it. Fighting aliens and trying to fix my ship. It was easily one of my favorite games growing up. My sister and brother also played it and it was almost an adolescent fist fight every time we got a chance to play it.
We had some next door neighbours in the military complex that we lived in and they introduced us to many games but Commander Keen 4 was far and away the most entertaining to me.

aliens. I guess it was the mystery of how a kid like me at the time could get lost and have been wearing a football helmet as protection against aliens.
Little Billy was a genius who built a spaceship to stop the Vorticon's invasion and I aspired to be just like him, an eight year old genius. I just wondered how he built that Photachyon Transceiver (a radio that can receive signals anywhere in the galaxy). Billy realizes that he must go back to that universe to protect it from annihilation. I love the game! I am not nerdy, at least I am not now. It was a fun game.
I also like how it made me feel as though I was playing Mario Bros. With the side scrolling feature, it made me feel as though I was playing Nintendo not playing on the computer. This was not a bad first endeavor by the company which went on to make more successful games like Doom and Quake. Those games couldn't hold a candle to this game.
When I was ten I was amazed on the game how he rushes to the planet Gnosticus IV to consult the Keepers of the Oracle, even though he discovers that they have been taken captive. It is a big leap of faith to travel through the galaxy to save a friend. It got me thinking about friendship and how I would do that for any of my friends just because they are that valuable to me.
Commander Keen in general was a mainstay in the sub-double-digit age group because he was a kid genius. We should have all aspired to be that awesome and I applaud him for that.
If you get a chance, please download this game or go out and play this game Commander Keen 4.

Game Review 2 (written by Benny851) Added on: 10/05/2006
Commander Keen 4 is honestly one of my favorite games out there. As a young boy equipped only with a football helmet, a pogo stick, and a laser gun, you must defeat the bad guys, consisting of everything from slugs and bouncing mushrooms, to flame throwing blue balls and flying spiders, and save the oracles, all the while gaining points from sweets.
Not exactly the most challenging of games, however there are tricks to defeating certain bad guys that you have to figure out for yourself, there’s even a badguy that you can't beat, you just have to get past him. Also, there are some annoying keys that you have to find through the level in order to get to a different part of the level. This can be especially difficult, since you can see what’s on the other side of the door and you know the oracle is just sitting there patiently waiting for you, if only you could find the BLUE crystal key.
You aren’t completely alone however, there are these captain crunch berry looking things that bounce around, and don’t particularly seem to be bad guys, and you can even jump on top of them and they quickly carry you through the level. But watch out for the spike pits. They don’t get hurt buy them, but you do.
These things can be annoying though, and I have often found myself knocking them out with my laser gun (to be kid friendly, they obviously can't kill the bad guys, they just knock them out and make them see stars). The entire game seems like an after school imagination adventure.
This game is hours of fun and half hours of challenge. Honestly, I beat this game when I was about 6 years old. Don't get me wrong, it is fun, but it’s not exactly a brain buster. The real challenge is getting the most points at the end of the game. There are candy bars, bubble gum, ice cream cones, and even an occasional doughnut or two, all of which give you points. And the high pointers aren't exactly easy to find. They’re up at the very tip top of the level, in which you have to bounce around flying platforms on your pogo stick, and they’re in underground caves with hidden entrances. Danger is around every corner in this adventure to save the universe, so grab your gear, suit up, and climb into the Bean-With-Bacon space cruiser and let’s go kick some slug-butt.

This game is the MUST HAVE of the series. Great graphics and all round good gameplay. Some great memorable baddies such as the Dopefish and the Bean. One of the first games I ever played on PC and I believe one of the all time greats, they don't make them like this anymore

I have many fond memories of playing this game when I was younger. It's a great game. I would spend hours playing it, even though I couldn't get past half the game, it's just that fun.
