I enjoyed this game massively when I was about ten years old on my old Tandy computer. Commander Keen was a great series but I only had a few of them and #4 and I spent hours on it. Fighting aliens and trying to fix my ship. It was easily one of my favorite games growing up. My sister and brother also played it and it was almost an adolescent fist fight every time we got a chance to play it.
We had some next door neighbours in the military complex that we lived in and they introduced us to many games but Commander Keen 4 was far and away the most entertaining to me.

We had some next door neighbours in the military complex that we lived in and they introduced us to many games but Commander Keen 4 was far and away the most entertaining to me. I just couldn't understand who designed those
aliens. I guess it was the mystery of how a kid like me at the time could get lost and have been wearing a football helmet as protection against aliens.
Little Billy was a genius who built a spaceship to stop the Vorticon's invasion and I aspired to be just like him, an eight year old genius. I just wondered how he built that Photachyon Transceiver (a radio that can receive signals anywhere in the galaxy). Billy realizes that he must go back to that universe to protect it from annihilation. I love the game! I am not nerdy, at least I am not now. It was a fun game.
I also like how it made me feel as though I was playing Mario Bros. With the side scrolling feature, it made me feel as though I was playing Nintendo not playing on the computer. This was not a bad first endeavor by the company which went on to make more successful games like Doom and Quake. Those games couldn't hold a candle to this game.
When I was ten I was amazed on the game how he rushes to the planet Gnosticus IV to consult the Keepers of the Oracle, even though he discovers that they have been taken captive. It is a big leap of faith to travel through the galaxy to save a friend. It got me thinking about friendship and how I would do that for any of my friends just because they are that valuable to me.
Commander Keen in general was a mainstay in the sub-double-digit age group because he was a kid genius. We should have all aspired to be that awesome and I applaud him for that.
If you get a chance, please download this game or go out and play this game Commander Keen 4.
