Cool Spot is actually that red dot on the 7up (yes the soda) logo. Created by Virgin Interactive and released in the early 90s, this game is a wonderful classic game that featured superb graphics, exciting music, good game play and great challenges.
Although the game is a marketing tool for the brand, it is a full game that is very well made. When you play it, you wouldn’t think it was just created to sell the soda. The graphics are wonderful, from the rendering life to the cool spot to the colorful graphics at the beach and the other backdrops for the game.

The graphics are wonderful, from the rendering life to the cool spot to the colorful graphics at the beach and the other backdrops for the game. It is very colorful making the game fun and lively. The animation of the Cool Spot is also
very smooth. The game can only be played by one player who has to control the Cool Spot around the different levels to be able to save the other cool spots that have been kidnapped. You will find the cool spots at the end of each level locked up in cages. As you go along the game there will be “spots” scattered all over the screen. You need to collect a certain number of dots to successfully finish each level.
A cool spot face will be your health gauge. This face gradually tilts until completely falls signifying the damage. To avoid damage, you must prevent from getting in contact with the enemies, certain obstacles and others. You have a multi-directional gun that fires up soda bubbles which is really handy because there will be enemies flying above you or running below you. The game is fun and will have you jumping, running, collecting spots and firing at enemies. Each level has a time limit so if you take too long and don’t finish the stage within the allotted time, even if you still have plenty of health or life force, you will lose a life.
There is no save feature but once you get past a checkpoint (a flagpole) that will be your starting point when you lose a life. You don’t have to restart the level from the very beginning. The game has different difficulty settings and each difficulty level has its own unique ending.
This game is a true classic. I enjoyed playing this in the 90s and it’s still a good game to go back to now. If you haven’t tried playing this game yet then I suggest you download it now because you sure have been missing a lot.
