I like Die Hard 2, and so as soon I saw the game, I jumped at the opportunity to play it. I had played a game of the same name on the playstation, and I had liked it, so I had high expectations.
The game is played from a 1st person perspective, like the PS version and is in the style of Time Crisis. Enemies enter the screen, shoot you, and you have to bring them down by aiming with a gun sight cursor.

The game is played from a 1st person perspective, like the PS version and is in the style of Time Crisis. Enemies enter the screen, shoot you, and you have to bring them down by aiming with a gun sight cursor. Simple enough, and it had worked well in many games, such as House of the Dead. However, using the mouse instead of a light gun leaves much to be desired.
It’s not that the game is too easy, too hard, or too confusing, its simply poorly executed.
It’s not the programmers’ fault; it’s just that the base concept is unsound. Light gun games just don’t translate well onto a computer, simple as that.
That said, a lot of people might find great fun in the game as a time killer. The stages get steadily harder, requiring faster reflects and more precise aiming with the mouse. There is a boss at the end of every stage, which mainly requires you to have enough health to take him down, as there is no way of controlling your character, and all the bosses simply run at you with a machinegun and a boatload of HP.
There are several different weapons and various power ups that are dropped by fallen enemies. The graphics are good by 1992 standards, which is to say, really, really bad. It’s pretty painful to watch, and the arenas leave much to be desired, all looking drab and lifeless. However, if you’re a fan of the movie, you might recognise and appreciate the scenery.
The enemies are predictable, entering from 5 possible points on the screen, and then they all run into the centre of the screen and start shooting. They can be annoying when running, as the enemies turn side on to move around, giving them a far smaller surface area to hit than usual. You can usually take them out before they start shooting though, as they give you around 1 second of leeway.
All in all, if you love Time Crisis and House of the Dead, try Die Hard 2: Die Harder too.
