Earthsiege is a mecha-style simulation game where you are placed in the cockpit of various massive bipedal war machines. This game is set in the 26th century taking place across North America, South America, Antarctica, and Asia.
The plot of the story behind this game is about the humans that are still left on earth fighting back against the Cybrid. Many humans have been able to survive and get a hold of the Cybrid weapons and equipment. Now they are fighting back.
You will be the pilot of the Hercs, which are Humaniform-Emulation Robotized Combat Unit with Leg-Articulated Navigation. To steer the Herc you will have to use your keyboard controls or a joystick. Some of the controls that you need are only on the keyboard so if you decide to use the joystick you will still need the keyboard. The mouse is able to interact with some of the buttons in the cock pit. There is a total of eight Hercs that you are able to control, each having its own unique speed, armour, shielding, energy and weapons.
When you are going into battle you will have to select the proper Herc to complete certain tasks. Each Herc has its own ways making one better for certain missions than another. You have the capability to take three squad mates along with you on each mission. They can be assigned to a Herc and the weapons before each mission you take part on. They are even usable to you as you can give them some basic orders. The more tasks they complete successfully the more their skill and rank will raise.
Earthsiege uses VGA graphics and displays at 320x200 resolution with 256 colours. When the game was created there were a few technical limitations so the terrain lacks graphically a bit. It is designed flat and featureless with an exception of a few jutting rocks and small hills. There has been a bit of detail done to the vehicles and some buildings feature textures.
Earthsiege can be a bit difficult, but easy to learn once you start playing. It is a very enjoyable game for all ages. The plot behind the game and superb graphics make this game quite exciting for many players. Earthsiege is a very well put together game and will be a keeper for years to come. If you like combat games while in a big mechanical body killing random alien forms, Earthsiege is a great game for you.
