Flesh Feast

PC
Genre:  Arcade    |     Year: 1998    |     Publisher: Segasoft     |     Developer: Segasoft
Game Review (written by Shannon) Added on: 11/24/2007
Segasoft came out with this horror game in 1998. It is a real-time action/adventure game from the third-person perspective.
The game setting is a remote island, owned by a food company known as NASAT, Inc. There is an unexpected explosion at the main plant on the island, and NASAT’s secret ingredient leaks to the water supply for areas surrounding the factory. Shortly thereafter, the residents of the island begin to grow ill and die. Unfortunately, they do not remain dead. The residents arise, one by one, as flesh eating zombies.

in a strategic mode. The main task of the game is battling the countless zombies that seem to keep popping up from nowhere and everywhere. As in classic zombie flicks, most of the undead are very slow, but there is strength in numbers, and the zombies definitely have numbers. They are also very tough to bring down, and the user will need to equip his heroes with a massive array of weaponry in order to defeat these groaning corpses. Some weapons available for use are simple bludgeoning weapons, such as golf clubs; great gore makers, such as chainsaws; or powerful weapons of destruction, such as submachine guns. There is even a nail gun that was left behind at the docks that characters can use to pump the zombies full of projectiles. The ammunition supply, for all projectile-based weapons, however, is limited, so the gamer has to be careful to actually aim, instead of just spraying the field with lead to kill zombies. Killing zombies is not the only objective. Occasionally, characters will stumble upon a human being that is actually still alive and in need of rescue. Doing so will likely recruit the human and make him or her available to help the heroes rid the island of the zombie menace.
There are numerous levels that need to be negotiated in Flesh Feast, including the loading docks, airport, hospital (naturally including a morgue), sporting arena, and the shopping mall from the movie Dawn of the Dead. The background and obstacles in each level are somewhat different, but for the most part, play is the same regardless of the location. The graphics and cut scenes are really well done for the day, but the sound effects are as monotonous as watching a zombie walk. Overall, the game could have been better, but it is still a challenging play and worth a shot, especially if you are a fan of the classic monster movies.
