Galaxian is perhaps one of the best known classic arcade games out there. The object of the game is to shoot the alien-type spaceships. Some spaceships stay stationary, some fly down, and all of them shoot at you. You proceed from level to level if you shoot all the spaceships without getting shot yourself.
As you progress through the levels, the spaceships become more skilled and it becomes more difficult to clear the level. Galaxian is an extremely simple game but can be played for hours.

The graphics leave much to be desired, but I think that’s what makes this game so fun. It is a good refresher from the complicated, detailed games of today. While the concept of the game is simple and the graphics
are obsolete, it is complicated to master the game level by level. As the fire from the spaceships increases, it becomes more chaotic and much more difficult to evade fire. Another similar game that is also a classic is space invaders. The difference between Galaxian and Space Invaders is that, in Space Invaders, there are mini forts that your ship can hide behind to evade the fire of the other spaceships. In Galaxian, there is no such protection.
The only way to evade fire is by moving left to right or by shooting the spaceships before they can shoot you. With only 3 lives to spare, it is more difficult than it sounds to beat this game. I personally have never done it, in fact, I’ve never progressed much farther than level 4 or 5. As simple as the game is, it presents a great challenge to any who play it. It’s a great game for kids who have never played video games before. It is a great game for adults who are video game fanatics.
Galaxian is the epitome of the great classic game. It just never gets old. No matter how many complex, technologically advanced, detailed games come out today, a game like Galaxian will always stay a fan favorite. It is still one of my favorite games to play, and while I do enjoy Playstation and the even newer Wii, the simplicity of the Galaxian will always appeal to me.
