Guimo

PC
Genre:  Arcade    |     Year: 1997    |     Publisher: Southlogic Studios     |     Developer: Southlogic Studios
Game Review (written by Rat_bytes) Added on: 02/26/2007
Guimo is a side-scrolling action shooter from Brazilian developer Jack-in-the-box. Flying under the radar, nobody really knew about it except for those who were lucky enough to receive a demo of it in promotional CD's, and, of course, Brazilians.
The game follows the adventures of a green lizard man called Guimo, who is from a universe called Bitland, where all the characters from video games live. However, the evil Necterion is messing with the boundaries between Bitland and the real world, with cataclysmic results.

The game follows the adventures of a green lizard man called Guimo, who is from a universe called Bitland, where all the characters from video games live. However, the evil Necterion is messing with the boundaries between Bitland and the real world, with cataclysmic results. You take control of Guimo as he leaps, climbs, and fights his way through the many different areas, trying to restore the balance between the two worlds.
Visually Guimo is a treat to look at, with lush, colorful environments and well-designed character

models. Guimo himself wears a terminally cool looking white suit of body armor, which suits the feel of the game perfectly. No cutesy kids game this - although it's got a light-hearted, cartoony theme, the enemies are vicious and lethal looking, and the wide assortment of death dealing weaponry will keep even the most sadistic gamer happy. The environments are interactive as well, so watch out for collapsing bridges and spikes.
Technically Guimo is set to impress, with good AI and even enemies who run off and warn other enemies of your presence. They're not pushovers, and they refuse to line up to be blasted off the screen - these guys fight back, and you'll need your wits about them if you want to stay alive to see the end of the level. One ill-thought-out move and you'll plummet to your doom, or meet your maker at the wrong end of a wolf trooper's rocket launcher.
Guimo doesn't have much of a storyline, so for those of you who prefer a deeper, more story-based experience without much skill-based action, this probably isn't the game for you, and you should go and play Halls of the Dead or something.
But for those of you, who enjoyed games like Doom Troopers, Duke Nukem, or Alien Carnage, while you're blowing away hordes of intelligent enemies, you're in luck and you should download this game immediately. It provides hours of adrenaline-filled fun, and although the game-play does consist of the basic shoot jump and climb platformer game-play, you won't find yourselves getting bored.
