The story of Gunmetal revolves around transformer style humanoid mech that are both walking robots and planes. They are huge war machines that possess numerous different weapons (up to a dozen, including napalm,
pulse cannons, rockets and harpoons) and a powerful electronic shield for defense. The planet of Helios is entrenched in a bitter war somewhere in the future. The humans from Earth have colonized this interesting planet, but their movements were detected by other unfriendly aliens that followed them to Helios and are attempting to wipe out the colony. It will be the job of the Gunmetal project and their giant robotic creations to thwart the onset of the evil aliens forces.
As a Gunmetal pilot, the user will be given multiple different missions to complete in his giant transformer style Gunmetal mech. He is a pilot in the Nataka Imperial Armored Cavalry and is battling the aliens. The specific Gunmetal mech vehicle that the gamer uses can be highly customized, which is one of the game’s greatest features. The player can make a mech that is quick, but light weight; heavily armored and outfitted, but slow; or more well-balanced.
There are more than twenty distinctly different missions, and the user also has the option of playing another player in a death match, which is not as common as the single player scenarios. The campaigns differ primarily by terrain and enemies. The ability to play a death match or play on different maps definitely helps to make the game more interesting. Overall, Gunmetal was good enough to be done and redone, and also ported to numerous formats. It is not a novelty as first person shooters go, but it is entertaining enough and will provide plenty of challenge for the casual gamer. It offers a high degree of customization, which also helps to add depth and challenge, as well as replayability. It is a satisfying game and will make a good download.
