Being a side scroll / platform fan for as long as I can remember, I decided to give this game a shot purely for the fact that its from apogee. The game is about a young wizard who wants to be a great wizard, but to do so and to prove to the high council and everyone else who doubts him, but go through an initiation so to speak in order for his wish to come true. He must embark on a long journey through 36 levels stretched over 4 episodes to accomplish his task, along the way he'll battle monsters such as imps, ghosts, dragons and bosses at the end of each episode.

The game boasts secret rooms and secret levels which may
or may not be in plain sight, after all, a game can't be made that easy.
As he progresses through each level, he'll pick up ruby's, diamonds, goblets and crowns to can points, and make him stronger (I’m not sure about the last comment. as it's been a while) As a young wizard, he also collects various potions which will help him kill off enemies quicker and finish his quest quicker. However, the only real setback is that there is just not enough potions to choose from. There is an element of surprise which the addition of simple puzzles to keep the mind working just for a while anyway.
These puzzles don't use any mathematical equations or algorithms to crack codes etc. just simple puzzles. The gameplay is standard for 1994, like most other game such as jazz jackrabbit, crystal caves and Halloween Harry, the gameplay is smooth, simple, and it's just a matter of shooting things, jumping on things, and in this games case, waving a wand around casting spells, but what this game lacks is variety, because it does get pretty repetitive. The controls were pretty responsive, which is a good things, because I do remember some platform games had some shocking controls. The graphics, like with the games mentioned earlier in this review are pretty good for it's time, they were nice, cute and colorful. And the sound was pretty simplistic, yet standard for that year and took full advantage of the soundcards that were out back then.
All in all a good game especially for the kids.
