Home Alone is based on the wildly popular Christmastime movie release of the same name starring Macaulay Caulkin. The video game was developed by Manley Association in the early nineties and was published by Capstone. It is an arcade style of game that was ported to many different formats in order to capitalize on the movies raging popularity.
The premise of the game, like the movie, involves young Kevin who was inadvertently left at home alone while his family leaves for Christmas vacation. During his time “home alone” the residence is robbed by the Wet Bandits, who are two notorious burglars that have been casing the neighborhood for months.

The premise of the game, like the movie, involves young Kevin who was inadvertently left at home alone while his family leaves for Christmas vacation. During his time “home alone” the residence is robbed by the Wet Bandits, who are two notorious burglars that have been casing the neighborhood for months. Kevin has to avoid the Wet Bandits while moving all of the family’s valuables to
a safe room in the basement of the home. When all of the family’s belongings are safe in the basement via the laundry chute, Kevin must make it past another variety of enemy, including bats, rats and other household pests to get into the basement himself and lock the valuables away in the safe room. Similar to the movie, Kevin sets a series of ingenious traps to injure the bandits who have invaded the house. Traps include flying paint cans, remote controlled vehicles, and fire. “I was murder that kid!”
There are many scenes in the video game that come straight from the movie when Kevin sets a successful trap or makes a humorous move. There are also many still pictures from the movie when the video game is laying out the plot and explaining the initial plans of the Wet Bandits. Overall, the video game does a good job of following the original plot of the movie.
The game is set up like a platform game, with the user controlling Kevin and his traps. The interface is confusing at first, but one must remember that a “kid always wins against two idiots” and hang in there with the controls. The graphics are good and the sound is excellent too!
In short, Home Alone is a fun little holiday adventure that kids and adults both will love. It is an excellent job of following the premise of the popular movie, which makes it all the more loveable. Plus, the action of the game itself is enough to interest gamers who are not fond of, or have never seen the original flick. In all, Home Alone comes recommended for download. It should provide a satisfying play, as well as a token chuckle.
