In Pursuit of Greed is a first person shooter that obviously plays from the first person perspective. It was created specifically for play on the personal computer running the MS-DOS operating system by Mind Shear Software. In Pursuit of Greed was published in the middle nineties by Softdisk Publishing. It features a nice science fiction or futuristic theme.
In Pursuit of Greed takes place well into the future in the year 15432 and it is the third age of man.
You will play the owner of an elite needling ship, the Red Hunter, which you primarily use as a scavenger to find abandoned (or not necessarily so) items about the land. Crime lords make millions off from salvaging property from those less fortunate, and by creating states of poor fortune for the weak. You will be given targets, and will use your ship to drive away any creatures or entities that will stand in the way of your salvage operations. Most of these entities are the enemies of your crime lord bosses and can be dealt with quite severely. The missions that you will be sent on will vary. Usually, you will be recovering high-priced items, but sometimes your bosses will require you to
assassinate enemy leaders or take out other noncooperatives to advance their agendas.
There are two different versions of In Pursuit of Greed available, a shareware version and a registered one. The shareware version offers only the first couple of levels of the game, abut the registered version gives the user much more bang for the buck. While the graphics are pixilated and overall poor, the music, sound effects and soundtrack are all very, very good. It also bears mentioning that the game gets loads better as it advances. The levels become more original, as do the weapons that the user will be able to pick up and use in his quests. The monsters will become different and definitely more challenging. There are five available characters to play, and while the differences between them are not glaring, they offer a nice change of pace from the usual single available hero.
In Pursuit of Greed was never as popular as the more mainstream games, such as DOOM!, but it definitely has something to offer. The storyline is good, and the game is frankly worth playing for the music alone, even if you are not a fan of the first person shooter.
