This is a nice shooter with a cool space theme. Interpose is a really nice looking VGA scroller that is a lot like a side running Gradius or maybe Tyrian. The ship will face wave after wave of enemies and will have to collect powerups to get bigger and stronger and build a powerful weapon. It was made and released by some little known gaming teams, including Twilight Zone Software, Webfoot Technologies Incorporated, and Katz Media AS.
It was a middle nineties play, but still does not run in Windows and will require an emulator like DOSBOX in order to run smoothly and look good.
The story for Interpose is pretty cool. It is a standard “you have to save the world” thing, but it offers some really interesting characters. You will play a talking lynx called an overlynx. Of all the places, you grew up in the lost city of Atlantis under the oceans on Earth, but have since become a regular Earthling. The humans are gone. However, a new race of evil humans has been born due to genetic coding and manipulation on the planet called Danedola. The Danedolans have developed this race to exterminate
the overlynxes and take over the Earth for themselves and are now sending squadrons of these aggressive people to attack the peaceful overlynxes who have lived in peace and harmony and commune with nature for hundreds of years.
The overlynxes are not without their defenses though. They have you. You will board a powerful but tiny little space craft and will partake in twenty-three levels where you will blast the hell out of these pesky humans and send them back to Danedola. Basically, you just shoot everything you can see coming at you and grab up the powerups. Like most shooter games, the power ups give you bigger and better weapons, shields and things like that. They are really standard and should be easy to learn how to use. The controls are really simple and will also be easy to learn how to use.
The game is colorful and the backgrounds on each level are great and don’t get repetitive or boring. The enemies are tough and numerous. The levels get harder and harder and offer more fast action with each coming one, making level one look like a tutorial by the time you are at the end of the game, kind of UN Squadron like.
Interpose is a good game and I liked it a lot. It still has that classic feel and should use an emulator, but it offers really good and smooth action and has a nice look. I liked the interpretation of the story and you probably will too.
