This game comes from the golden age of konami, when they had all of the best games at the arcade. Jackal was always one of my favorite konami titles. The whole jackal experience can be summed up in one short sentence: shooting a gun from the back of a truck. Sounds kind of boring right? Well, its not. There are also other incentives in the game to keep you going through the semi repetitive levels. You can power up your grenades to missiles by collecting weapons power ups (which eventually goes to these sweet missiles that have blast patterns that go out like a cross along the whole screen).

You can free pows by shooting the huts, they are in with grenades
or missiles and driving the jeep up to the huts and picking them up, eventually dropping them off at helipads so they can be transported out of the battle zone. If you're carrying pows and your truck blows up, a small fraction will survive and you will be able to pick them up in your new jeep.
It’s the same thing through all of the levels but interesting enemies (like the medussa heads that shoot missiles) till keep your interest and hold some replay value. Other highlights include the ability to run people over - that never gets old. The worst thing I can say about the game is that you can only shoot straight up, which kind of sucks. This game would have been so much better if you were able to shoot diagonally, I don’t know why they didn't put it in the game. They make up for the inability to shoot your machine gun in any direction by allowing you to shoot grenades or missiles in any direction.
Like the other reviewer said, the jeep control is very good. it may not move very fast but the response time is quick and you can turn pretty sharp (which comes in handy because you are usually dodging bullets or fast enemies like the level where the boss is a big group of tanks that bum rush you at the same time) my favorite part of the game is the between level screen shots. They vary depending on how you did on the level. If you kick a lot of butt it shows the truck airborne with guns blazing and someone yelling 'yeehaw!', if you get your butt kicked the two guys are sheepishly looking at the map thinking where next? Sometimes they're standing by the truck planning the attack for the next level (while smoking) I thought that was so cool when I was a little kid. But I digress, this game is sweet. Download it and kick some butt.
