A truly wonderful game from my childhood. You play as an adventurer trying to steal gems from the different levels, all the while avoiding traps and enemies that will try to hunt you down. After collecting all the gems, you will need to head for the double-doors to exit the level. It is called Jetpack because you can find tanks of fuel for the jetpack on your back. By doing so, you can fly around the level using the Alt key; otherwise, you'll just jump into the air.
Timing and care is critical in some levels, since more and more enemies and traps will appear. The jetpack is also equipped with a phaser, which lets you destroy wooden crates (which don't come back) and dig through brick walls (which will reappear after a certain amount of time). There are, however, numerous ways to avoid getting killed. There are stunners, which halt your enemies' movement, and they won't kill you if you walk past them, and a shield, which keeps you from taking damage at all. The real difference between the two is that the stunner won't save you from traps, while the shield lets you move right through the traps.
You can also pick up numerous treasures to increase
your score and thus increase how many lives you have left. You can also save your game, so that you can go back to whatever else you were doing on your computer without having to worry about starting all over again. Also, there are 100 levels, and the game lets you select which one you want to start at, in multiples of 10, with the exception of level 100. Up to eight players can play this game, although you end up taking turns, and it's not very likely you'll find that many people who want to play it, unless you hold some kind of Jetpack tournament at a convention for computer games. The game gets harder as you progress through the levels.
There is also an option that lets you create your own level, which I myself have done numerous times. There are sites that let you upload and download levels that were created for this game. This option does a lot to keep things fresh for the game, and allows you to take a break when you are frustrated with whatever level you were just playing. With all this in mind, it becomes clear that there is much adventure and excitement to be had when playing this game, and it is a very addicting game as well. Bottom line; get this game and you'll have a lot of fun!
