Jill of the jungle was one of the very first games that I played when I was a very young child. Everything about it was fun. It is part of a trilogy of games, and while I have only played this first part of the trilogy, I can definitely say that I had a lot of fun playing through the jungle as the main character, Jill.
Jill of the jungle is a 2-D, side scrolling platformer. In this game you will run and jump around as the main character, Jill, through 15 different levels of action.

Jill of the jungle is a 2-D, side scrolling platformer. In this game you will run and jump around as the main character, Jill, through 15 different levels of action. This game takes place in a jungle (no surprise), however each level is unique in its own way. Throughout Jill of the Jungle you will encounter many different enemies
ranging from killer frogs, to giant ants, to alligators. You will also have to climb ropes to get to higher places and avoid many obstacles, such as lava, falling spikes, and other death traps.
But this game wouldn't be very fun if all you had to do is run around and avoid all the dangers. The game gives you a few abilities for you to dispatch your enemies and avoid them with more ease. Throughout the game you will find knives which you can throw and will magically come back to you almost like a boomerang. There is also a type of pinwheel which does more damage. You will also find items that will make you jump higher. At some points in the game you will get to turn into an animal. Also, like a good platformer there are special items that you will need to collect. You will have to collect keys to open new doors and apples to replenish your health.
There are also a few of other minor features like a "turtle" mode which slows the game down a little bit. The game will also keep track of your score and you can find score bonuses throughout the game. While these things seem like nice features, they don't add a lot to the game play experience, unless you really want to achieve a ridiculously high score for replay value. But most of us will just worry about getting through the game and having fun.
Finally, the graphics of the game are decent. I'm sure that for its time it was great. I'm so used to the current generation systems that I usually have trouble trying to distinguish all the little objects in the game and it is because of this that I will complain that the graphics are blocky. However, the graphics are not the reason why this is a memorable game.
If you're just looking for a way to pass the time or would like to remember what it was like to play a computer game in DOS during the early nineties, this is the game for you.
