Jumpman

PC
Genre:  Arcade    |     Year: 1984    |     Publisher: IBM     |     Developer: Epyx
Game Review (written by Chrissi) Added on: 11/23/2007
Jumpman is a classic arcade platform game where you are trying to defuse all the bombs in each platform filled screen. To defuse a bomb it is as simple as just touching it. The bombs have been placed on the planet of Jupiter by terrorists attempting to destroy the planet.
Jumpman has the ability to climb up and down the ladders throughout the platform screen, jump, and the ability to climb ropes which will only allow a certain direction to climb them, depending on the rope.

There are points awarded for each and every bomb that you are able to defuse and bonus points for every level that you complete quickly. The speed that Jumpman can have depends on the player. You have

the ability to select how fast you would like him to go, just remember the faster he goes the riskier you are being.
The graphics are similar to many of the classic arcade games that have been released over the years. They are not over the top, but still have the needed attention to make this game visually appealing. They are great and colorful!
There are three different levels of difficulty, but you don’t actually have the option to select how difficult the game is on your own. While progressing through the game you will notice the game to become a little bit harder the further along you get. This is due to the fact that there are levels of difficulty changes during the game. From levels one to eight you will be playing the beginner levels, nine to eighteen are the intermediate levels; and nineteen to thirty are the advanced levels. With the difficulty level progressing during game play you will be getting better while playing.
There is an addition of the randomizer, which will shuffle the levels up randomly, and you will go through and complete each of the thirty levels not knowing how hard or simple it will be during the next level you participate in. The final battle there will be a UFO shooting laser beams at you. You must avoid these beams while still trying to defuse all the bombs throughout the platforms. There is also a secret level that has been added on to this game, but you must play it to find out. Beware though it is very difficult!
Jumpman is a well-known classic that many have enjoyed over the years. If you’ve loved many of the other classics and haven’t yet attempted this one I think it is time. Jumpman will soon have you quite addicted to the wonderful game play and you will not want to stop playing for quite some time.
