This was one of the first games I bought (along with Zone 66, Jazz Jackrabbit, and several Pinball games).
Firstly, this is three games in one, three episodes each one subtly different, the best one being the final episode.
Secondly, graphics, the graphics are cartoonish but all the character models are well designed and animated, and you can tell what everything is supposed to be. The levels are 2D and are built using tiles (such as Wolfenstien 3D).
Sound can be a problem, for the first option you will get plinity-plonkity sfx and music, for the second option the sounds are much better, however the third beats both of these by a mile.
Sadly, most computers can’t use it and you’ll just get silence (if you still have a sound card you may be in luck). On my old win95 adlib sound worked and the music in particular really stands out, someone has put a lot of work into this.
This game is awesome, move around, shoot stuff, yay! Ahem, when you first start episode 1 level 1 you pick up the bubble gum (or whatever) and the fun begins. There are three weapons; the bubblegum (look it’s pink and looks squashed) which is cheap, the starburst which bounces off walls and the missile which veers towards targets. If you collect the lightening bolt, these weapons do more damage. As you collect more of each type, their rate
of fire increases. These weapons may seem like harmless fun but there is some real strategic thought employed. For example, one of the bosses has a shield and shooting him only harms yourself, so hide behind an obstacle and bounce starbursts around it, eventually he will lose his shield, NOW KILL HIM, BWAHAHAHAHA!
Ahem. One of the best things about this game is all the secrets, tons of them (hint, shoot the walls in the first room in the first and third episodes) there is just so much to do.
There is one niggling complaint, Sparky (in episode 2) can be a pain, getting in the way and getting lost (you can’t complete the level without him), this is a minor thing but can be annoying.
Controls are okay, but there is no jump key, instead pressing jump or duck will cause you to get shorter or taller, other than this the controls work great.
