This game is one that brings back younger childhood memories, with the colours being so intense and graphics being of the highest quality I have ever seen in that era of gaming. The game has a simplistic idea of catching monsters in a sack. Yes, this may sound dull, but as a young child there was nothing I loved more than to play on this game. It is a simple game with a cool platform feel to it.
Magic Boy progresses through eight different worlds each with six levels.
Each world has a different colourful theme. The music seems to me to be fun and bubbly and compels you to play on. Sometimes I thought I was Magic Boy, in a little world of my own. The game, obviously, to a professional critic would not reach standards of gaming today, but in my opinion this is my favourite game of all time. It is an ideal game for children growing up; it is one of a kind. Really, what other game allows you to catch monsters in a sack?
With bonus levels to add a bit of variety, the game does not seem to get boring, although the idea is slightly repetitive through the levels. I have not yet completed it, meaning
it’s not the easiest of games either; the game would be ideal for the younger generation, that like a challenge. However, all these memories of the game are a long way back in the past, (about 12 years perhaps) and nowadays a young gamer may not look twice at this game. Maybe the lack of gore and the general happiness around the game is too depressing for our children of today. However if you are a gamer that respects the retro era then I would say to find this genre's all time best game you would have to find Magic Boy.
Yes the game is simplistic, but I was hooked from the beginning and this is why now, twelve years later, I am still searching for this game. When I first played it I got to the 12th level, and the main reason I am back now is to conquer the legend that is Magic Boy and complete the whole game, and without doubt I will try to succeed until I do succeed. I have also heard rumour that there is something special at the end of the game and maybe this is what draws me back to Magic Boy. I hope today's children will look at this and appreciate it as a good game because it is wasted if they did not. I would put Magic Boy up with the all greats such as Mario, Sonic, and many, many more. If I try to imagine my life without this game I feel disappointment.
