Marathon 2 is a great game for what it is. You can obviously get better graphics from plenty of games nowadays, but then again, you have to pay for those games. The game was originally made for Mac, where I played the demo of it that came standard with my family’s old Mac. As soon as I played it, I wanted the full version
The story line is very intricate, and sometimes hard to keep up with. If you have not played Marathon 1, you might not get all of the story line, but it does not take that much away from game play.

The weapons are pretty straight forward. They consist of a standard pistol, a plasma pistol, an assault rifle, a shotgun,
a rocket launcher, a flame thrower, and an “alien weapon.” I may have missed a weapon, but the point is the weapon set is not that intricate, which is kind of nice I think. You do not have 50 variations of a shotgun to scroll through.
The enemy AI is pretty reasonable. They aren’t quite as smart as today’s games, which isn’t to be expected anyway. They will use walls to hide on occasion and the smarter enemies will not run a B-line at you with guns blazing. The friendly AI is also reasonable. They will actually help you, and are pretty good shots. They usually teleport in when you are in an especially tough battle and teleport out after you’re done. Sometimes, though, they get in your way when you’re trying to do something. My personal solution is just to shoot them and they’ll either run or die. Kind of mean, I know, but it works. Oh, and you can shoot your friendly AI. I’ve made a habit of it, as they drop ammo for the pistol. You have to be careful, though, because if you get to greedy and there are enough of them left, they’ll start shooting back at you.
As far as the network multiplayer goes, I can’t give an opinion. I have not gotten the chance to play it with my fellow dorm residents. However, if the game itself is any indication, I think it will be awesome.
Overall, I’d recommend this game if you are looking for an old-style shooter to have fun and mess around with. Also, if you’re the type that likes to play a game until you beat it, this game will give you probably about a weeks worth of entertainment playing an hour or two a day.
