MARIO!! what cannot truly be said about this game.. it is basically a famous starter for the whole gaming experience; millions of people know what it is, no longer is it just simply a computer game but it is a base concept for many a platform game. Mario may not have been the first platform game to ever emerge but it is one of the greatest, likely the most famous, and has created the flagship character for Nintendo. The craze started with the platform game and led on to the different characters that appeared in the game, each becoming a part of the gaming community in its own way.
The characters have spawned RPGs and puzzle games, driving games and more platforms. Yoshi, for example, has an entire world created around him. People from all over the world all play and enjoy these games.
For all those people that have never played the original Mario platform game you have to play it to truly understand how it all came about; when the game was released it stood out from the rest and, in turn, took root to be one of the most played and well remembered platform games ever to be released.
Storyline: Basically as the storyline goes, you are a character called Mario who is somewhat enamoured by a second character called the princess; the princess of course being Mario’s
love interest is abducted by the nemesis of Mario; the nemesis in this case is a giant lizard type creature that oddly has a turtle shell on its back; breathes fireballs and stands on two legs. He is called 'Bowzer'; of course after Bowzer abducts the princess, Mario knows he must save her and thus the story begins...
Gameplay: You are looking at what is essentially a side view of the Mario world with a 2D scrolling world moving from left to right. Mario can jump, pick up power ups, jump up and down special pipes, and work out all kinds of puzzles that are presented to him in game... Various power-ups in the game give Mario the edge; he gains size which enables him to jump higher and reach otherwise inaccessible places by picking up a mushroom. He also can be struck twice before losing a life. The first touch shrinks him, and the second will do him in. Power-ups such as this one are found by knocking into bricks and blocks where they are hidden, often with bonus coins for points. The game continues with variations of the initial level, all done in striking and colorful VGA graphics, which is what makes this game different from the original.
In summary if you’re a nostalgia freak or just want to play a game that most of the populous has played or even want to see what the cartoons; movies; action figures and game cards all came from then, hey, give this a go.
