Metal Gear Solid

PC
Genre:  Arcade    |     Year: 2000    |     Publisher: Konami     |     Developer: Konami
Game Review 1 (written by Amiro22) Added on: 09/23/2006
Paying homage to the old-school NES and MSX versions of Metal Gear Solid, any fan of those retro games would be proud to play Metal Gear Solid. Arguably the best game of our decade, Metal Gear Solid delivers on all technical fronts.
For its time, Metal Gear Solid provided the best of the best in the graphics department. Great textures and particle effects, great player models, great interface, great everything. It’s going face to face against an amazingly designed Metal Gear Rex feels fantastic.
The cut-scenes are also the cream of the crop.
If there is a game that has better voice acting than Metal Gear Solid, I have not played it yet. David Hayter provides the voice for Solid Snake, and he makes Solid Snake into the most bad-ass character ever made in video games. The music in this game also puts you right into the action: from the sound of your own footsteps, to the sound of the guards going “Huh? What was that noise?” everything is spot-on. The sound recognition in this game is also the most innovative in stealth action game-play. You have to knock on the walls to avert the guards’ attention.
The greatest stealth action game ever made?

In terms of what this game has done for the genre, yes. Run, Walk, Crawl, hide in a box, walk against the wall, choke out the guards from behind, what can’t you do in this game?
With bonus features to unlock in this game such as Stealth Camouflage (Which makes you practically invisible) and alternate endings and story paths, this game will keep you hooked for a very long time. The VR Missions and other modes in the main menu also add to the experience.
his game has created a series many fans have grown to love and die for. With a game that could very well stand on its own as a movie, this game gives you an experience like none other. With a great voice cast, and some of the best developers in gaming, this game is like none other. The Creator of Metal Gear Solid, Hideo Kojima, is nothing short of a genius. He has gone on to create other amazing games in the series, including MGS 2: Sons of Liberty, MGS 3: Snake Eater, and soon to be created MGS 4: Guns of the Patriots. All of these games wouldn’t be possible without the amazing success of Metal Gear Solid.

Game Review 2 (written by Sturgeonboat) Added on: 08/26/2006
About seven years ago I played Metal Gear Solid on the Playstation system from Sony. It allows you to roam around levels covertly while trying to avoid various soldiers and traps. You can use different weapons like machine guns, knifes and even your bare hands to dispose of the opposing forces.
Stealth is what you try to achieve as you go forth on your escapades of death and craziness. There were times where it would get frustrating though, because there were a lot of cameras to avoid. A little bit of difficulty aside though, it made things interesting. The soldiers you kill are not the smartest enemies you would want to take on. You can walk right up behind an enemy and they will not notice you there. Or you can do something to divert their attention (sometimes they'll even see you directly for an instant) but as long as it isn't something major that gets their attention (like shooting a gun, or them seeing you for an extended period of time) they'll go on about their business. Then you just walk up behind them and snap their neck.
The boss battles are interesting. The final one is really quite simple once you get the hang of it. The whole game is just about timing and getting the hang of certain processes.
Some people get extra fun out of the game by trying to play it through without getting caught once by a soldier or a camera. Others try doing speed-runs to try and finish Metal Gear Solid as quickly as possible. This is actually pretty fun as you learn that you don't need to kill everything. In fact, it's actually easier not to kill as you'll conserve bullets. Of course, if you find yourself accidentally stalking a soldier, there's no problem with snapping a neck. Just remember to hide the body.
The story was alright. There was not much in terms of depth, but it was not bad.
The graphics would be pretty dated now. There are newer Metal Gear games out now. I have not played them, but the word is they're pretty good too. If you're looking for an old classic Playstation game though, Metal Gear Solid would be a great game to go with. There's nothing wrong with sneaking around quietly and trying to snap a few necks. Blowing stuff up is always a good thing too.
