Samus Aran is a young warrior woman who is seeking to clear her good name from a misunderstanding that occurred in the Metroid Fusion title. She must explore SR817 for evidence that will help her to accomplish this task, and is naturally bombarded with baddies on the way. The game play is very similar to the classic Metroid games. Samus can duck to avoid enemy shots, shoot in eight different directions, roll into a tiny ball to avoid enemy flak and squeeze into tight spaces, explore vast maps and upgrade her red warrior’s suit and weapons.

Since this is a fan made game that picks up at the tail end of the last Metroid installment, there are not a lot of advancements in sound or
graphics. Still, the gamer will have everything he has come to expect from the Metroid series. There are myriad space pirates that need to be smoked and many unique levels in which to lose yourself. The size of the maps is impressive, and exploration can take some time, which is always great in a platform game. Probably the best part about Metroid Resurrection, as well as previous Metroid installments, is the ability to upgrade Samus Aran’s weapon. Nothing is more fun than watching that huge glowing orb get bigger and wipe out more space pirates. It is also a great idea to have the weaponry built up when facing the level bosses, who are well-drawn and tricky to defeat.
Since the graphics and sounds are taken primarily from older formats, they are not going to knock your socks off. Some of the movement, especially on the slopes, is a little bit clunky, but gamers should get everything they expected from a two-dimensional platform game. Overall, it is very well made, especially for a fan made installment. It fits seamlessly into the Metroid story line and remains very true to the spirit of the Metroid series. For those people who loved the originals, Metroid Redemption will be a great play that leaves them wanting more.
