PC
Genre:  Arcade    |     Year: 1993    |     Publisher: Apogee Software Ltd.     |     Developer: Apogee Software, Ltd.
Game Review (written by Eric) Added on: 03/25/2008
Monster Bash is a side scrolling game that was released in 1993 for the MS-DOS. The game, developed and published by Apogee Software, is a simple game with a fantasy theme.
The game will have you controlling the character of Johnny Dash. Johnny Dash’s dog named Tex was just kidnapped by Count Chuck and one night during a storm, a monster under Johnny’s bed tells him that other pets have been kidnapped by Count Chuck as well. The pets are now with Count Chuck at his under world awaiting their turn to be converted into evil monsters.

With the help of the friendly monster, Johnny is armed with a

slingshot and rocks. Johnny now uses the secret passage door inside his closet to travel to Count Chuck’s underworld.
Johnny has to go through several levels and save the pets from their cages. All pets must be freed from each level otherwise Johnny will be unable to move on to the next level. After freeing all the pets from each level, you must also go against a boss for that level. The game is composed of three episodes with a total of 28 levels.
Johnny will regain his full health at the start of each level. There are also power ups that you can get in every level but when you move on to the next level all the power ups that you were able to get from the previous level are taken away.
What makes this game extra fun is the variety of environment featured for each level. The game is set in a castle, in the woods, in the graveyards, caves and other places. Also, apart from the enemies, Johnny also gets to interact with special items that help him finish a level.
The game has three difficulty settings so you can adjust the game based on your capabilities. There are plenty of enemies that Johnny has to face. The enemies include zombies, witches, skeletons, werewolves and other creatures from a horror theme. These creatures make the game more rich despite the dated graphics.
Overall, I would say this game is a good adventure game because of the various elements that make the game interesting enough even for the most experienced gamers.
